Tulsi (Holy Basil) and Moringa (Moringa oleifera) are two of the most unique herbs to come out of India, and together they offer a myriad of health benefits. Tulsi is well known in the west for its adaptogenic benefits and uses in combating stress. However, Moringa is just starting to gain momentum here for its incredible nutritional value.
Moringa leaf contains a properly sequenced, full chain of amino acids, which is how nature intended us to consume them and thus are very easily assimilated. It is also very high in vitamins and minerals. These nutritional benefits are all available when the leaves are consumed in their whole form as a loose powder that can be added to smoothies, or soups, or even sprinkled over salads or a stir-fry. It can also be taken as a supplement in capsule form.
The antioxidant activity in Moringa is extremely high, and the easiest way for your body to assimilate them is in tea form. There is one antioxidant in particular that Moringa contains called epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, which is twice as powerful resveratrol, one of the most popular anti-aging antioxidant supplements on the market. EGCG has been shown to help maintain healthy LDL cholesterol levels and protect cardiovascular health. One study has shown that Moringa may have the highest antioxidant activity of any plant yet discovered, although more research is needed (1).
Tulsi's adaptogenic benefits and high antioxidant activity coupled with Moringa's benefits make one powerhouse of an herbal tea! Drinking a cup of Tulsi Moringa Tea in the morning instead of coffee or other caffeinated teas provides a stimulant-free energy source to carry you through your day while at the same time protecting your cells from damaging free-radicals, and increasing vitality and long-term health. We can all drink to that!
